If you think of an absolutely classic Victorian fireplace design it will probably be this one. Carved form a solid fine white marble this design is ideally suited to the smaller drawing rooms, living rooms, studies and dining rooms. A very flexible design, The Victorian Classic can be used with log burners as well as with register grates or an open fire with basket and dogs (natural or gas).  The mantle stands 1114 mm high , is 1494 mm long and a surprisingly generous 220 mm deep which is still large enough to overhang mirrors and pictures and to decorate as well.  The opening is 914 mm wide by 914 mm high and if needed slips can be provided by us to reduce the opening further. ( we would usually recommend either honed black slate or polished black granite slips as these colours are not really noticed and so not interfere with the proportions of the fireplace design.)  Hearths can also be supplied to any size required and are prepared at After the Antique before dispatch. Either matching white marble, honed black slate or polished black granite is usually recommended.

This fire surround is prepared for fitting before it leaves our workshops and will have all the fixing holes pre-drilled so it is easier to assemble on site.

A fitting pack including spacers, pins, glues, and instructions also comes with the fireplace.

Alternatively we will be happy to quote for the fireplace installation.

The Victorian Classic marble fireplace surround. With finely carved corbels supporting the mantle and a height of 1115 mm this is a good example of Victorian fireplace designs which reflected the architecture of the period. Mantle heights became lower than in the preceding Regency period to suit the more modest ceiling heights found in many 19th century buildings. Victorian marble fireplaces, however, generally had mantel shelves of generous depth to accommodate the popular mantle ornamentation.
Mantle 1494 mm long by 115 mm high and 158 mm deep.
Fireplace opening 915 mm wide by 915 mm high.

Either polished black granite or honed black slate slips are recommended to compliment this design. After the Antique can supply and cut these to size needed.
